Adaptation Programs

ASG offers adaptation programs for local governments in wildfire mitigation, flood preparedness, seismic preparedness and more. Programs include:
Wildfire Mitigation Programs
Nearly 2 million homes in the US are at high risk of wildfire, the vast majority in the West. We help communities develop programs to encourage residents and businesses to prepare for wildfire. Wildfire specialists provide on site assessments to residents and create customized reports identifying the actions needed to reduce vulnerabilities. Once threats are identified, program certified contractors can come out to provide cost estimates and complete the work. This whole process is facilitated by our adaptation advisors that have deep experience in motivating residents to take action to improve their homes. Heat Action Planning

We identify populations that may be at risk from heat events and create plans unique to each community. We can work with agencies already serving affected populations as a conduit forcommunication and action prior to, and during high heat events. We can develop or tap into existing technology to serve as a warning system and open communication channels during heat events.

Climate Change Advising and Support

ASG focuses on working with local governments to help them solve their climate change challenges.  One of the core competencies of ASG is consulting with local government staff on complex challenges pertaining to climate change, specifically by assigning the government an advisor that serves as a technical resource, a cheerleader, a relentless data-tracker, and by gently providing accountability to a project or goal. The advisor works with the staff to set goals, remove roadblocks, encourage and assist, and follow up as necessary to ensure a high rate of completed projects. ​

Residential Resiliency Auditing

This program allows local governments to offer their residents basic resiliency auditing that focuses on water management and backflow mitigation. It can be customized to also include drought preparedness and creating defensible spaces for wildfire preparedness. These programs focus on helping communities become more safe in their residential and small business sectors.  

Seismic Preparedness

We provide a baseline report identifying community resources, tools and expertise available to address any current infrastructure vulnerabilities. Supporting programs include mitigation walkthroughs and implementation programs focused on making homes more resilient and safe.  ​

Community Adaptation Cohorts

Adaptation Services Group offers cohort based training for regional communities.  The purpose of this training is to educate local government leadership and staff on climate change risks and adaptation principles that will enable the community to prepare their infrastructure, as well as their residents for a changing climate.  Building on Adaptation Services Group's successful work with communities to create climate adaptation plans we will work on the following capacity-building:
  • Educate municipal staff and policy makers
  • Provide structures and frameworks for engaging community stakeholders in adaptation planning
  • Share both for pay and free climate adaptation models available to the community
  • Work with the community to create an adaptation plan​
The program will bring together as many as 20 communities over a 13-week period to step through the process of creating an individual climate adaptation plan. Cohort participants will receive an education in climate adaptation planning.  Moreover, they will leave the cohort process with a fully developed adaptation plan custom focused on their community that they themselves have created.

Vulnerability Assessment

We create a vulnerability assessment that utilizes interdepartmental collaboration and community stakeholder engagement. ​The assessment is aligned with the CRAFT framework for ease of reporting.
